Chocolate Mint {Spoons}

Though it can be hard to find the time to make your own gifts during the holidays, I think homemade items are a lovely and thoughtful way to show people how much you care.  Earlier this week I showed you how easy it is to make vanilla marshmallows – and what goes better with marshmallows than hot chocolate?

These chocolate covered spoons are simple, fast and fun to make, and all the recipient needs to do is stir one into hot milk in order to create a cozy mug of cocoa.  I sprinkled chopped mint chocolate on top of these, but you could use any kind of flavored chocolate you wish.  Then wrap up two spoons and give them away with a bag of homemade marshmallows! Yummmmm.

Chocolate Mint Spoons

Semi-sweet chocolate chips (1 tbsp for each spoon you’ll make)

A dash of oil

Finely chopped mint (or other flavored) chocolate

Plastic spoons

Cellophane bags and ribbon for wrapping

Melt chocolate chips with a dash of oil in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between heating, until chocolate is melted through.  Coat plastic spoons with melted chocolate , tapping off excess, and then place on a parchment lined baking sheet.  Sprinkle finely chopped flavored chocolate over the top. Repeat with as many spoons as you’d like, then place in the refrigerator to harden.  Once hard, store in cellophane bags in a cool, dry place.
