Since I had a wisdom tooth removed on Thursday, I’ve spent the last 72 hours bedridden and on heavy medication. This gave me lots of time to imagine all of the outfits I could wear to NYFW, as well as lots of time to get incredibly sick of my messy room. So the moment I felt well enough to get out of bed, I set my sights on tackling a few small projects. First up, my bookshelf:

“Ow!”, right!? This shelf had become a breeding ground for old books and random junk. I never looked through the books available there (they all would tumble out if touched anyway), and I didn’t have room to store the books I actually use everyday for school. An overhaul was in order. So I sorted through the mess: trash, recycling, give-away, re-sell, keep forever in a box for my future children, etc. Then I painted the back of the bookshelf gold, and put everything back in order – books on the bottom are sorted by color, and books on top are currently for use in school and/or current favorite coffee table books. This was the result:

I even had room to show off pictures with loved ones and my favorite new shoes! For me, this was definitely a “Wow”.

When I have more energy {and time!} I would love to sand the entire bookshelf and re-varnish it as well, but for now this simple pick-me-up was exactly what I needed!
So there – my messy secret is out! The first step is admitting you have a problem, and the second step is doing something about it… right!?
