My own gold belt

February 3rd, 2012 § 5 comments

I love the metal-detailed belts that have popped up on the fashion scene lately, but I haven’t been able to find one in my price range.  So… what’s a girl to do? DIY of course!

1. To make a gold metal belt, I used two simple materials: a thin gold-hued sheet of copper {which I picked up at my local art/hardware store for less than $3} and an old black belt I already had lying around.

2. To begin, I carefully hammered down the edges of the metal so that the sharp edges would not be visible.

3. Then I folded the metal from each side again so the two edges would overlap one another and match the width of the belt.

4. Finally I threaded the belt through the metal “envelope”, moved it to the center, and bent it slightly into a curved shape.  When I put on the belt, I wear the buckle at the back and the gold plate in the front…

5. …and voila!

I wore it today to cinch an oversized dress, and I was absolutely thrilled with the way it looked!  I’m so excited to find more ways to style it.
