Rainy Day {Silver Lining}

December 19th, 2012 § 5 comments

As a brand new NYC resident, I find one of the hardest obstacles to overcome is loneliness.  No matter where you are in the world, trying to find a new group of friends and confidants to call your own isn’t easy. But in a city of more than eight million people, where it seems like everyone celebrating, dating, heading to brunch, spending time with their colleagues and families, etc. etc. – one can quickly begin to feel very left out.

So when my blogger friend Gina {of Popcorn and Pandas} saw that I’d moved into Brooklyn and invited me out for brunch, I don’t think she knew just how much it would mean to me.  Now, I’m no stranger to becoming fast real-life friends with fabulous bloggers that I’ve met on Twitter (hi Jen, Rebekka and Amy!} but this brunch would be Gina’s first blogger meet-up, and I was honored to be invited.

We met up at The Farm on Adderly {after I got thoroughly lost in Brooklyn first of course} and instantly started chatting, gossiping and laughing like old friends – definitely not like we’d just met a few moments earlier.  After brunch we took a little tour of the beautiful houses in the neighborhood, took outfit photos, and were even screamed at by a crazy old lady {you must read Gina’s account of this – it was pretty hilarious}. All in all, it was such a lovely afternoon, and Gina truly raised my spirits that day. I mean – just look at her! With her lovely “Hi!” sweater and quick smile, I was instantly reminded how many wonderful people there are in the world, and how lucky I am each time I meet one.

So big hugs to Gina – I can’t wait for karaoke next time! – and to all the other kind, loving friends I’ve welcomed into my life in the past seven weeks I’ve lived in NYC.  Thank you for making me laugh, getting me out on the dance floor, taking me to new restaurants, calling me for no reason, and for helping to make this drastic change in my life so much easier.

I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you – but I’ll start by buying the next round!

Cheers loves. xx
