Wooden Crate Shelf {DIY}

November 27th, 2013 § 0 comments

The other day on the way home from work, I found a wooden crate by the curb outside my local grocery store. You would have thought I found a $100 bill on the ground, I was that excited.  Back in Copenhagen, I used to dream of finding a wooden crate to use as a bike basket — but since I don’t have a bike here in NYC, I had to find another use for it.  I used the yellow paint left over from this project to brighten up the dirty wood, and then added it to a side table in our apartment to create a mini vanity table for all my favorite things.

On the top of the crate, I used my Mary Kate and Ashley coffee-table book to make an even space, and displayed all my favorite bits and baubles in assorted glass dishes. Inside the crate, I placed a bouquet of dried baby’s breath, a few more favorite jewels in a cute bunny dish, and filled a large vase with a string of white lights. I love the way it lightens up our space and gives me more dimension for storage and decor!

What do you think??

Seen above: flower necklaces, bunny and dachshund dishes, and probably 50% of the jewels pictured above ~ Forever 21, gold skull bracelet ~ Asos, watches ~ Caravelle by Bulova and Michael Kors, assorted vases and glass dishes ~ vintage/second hand.

Happy day-before-Thanksgiving my loves!!
