Best Places to {Eat, Play, See} in NYC

Living in New York City is an experience like no other.  It truly is the “city that never sleeps” — perhaps because with so many amazing attractions, restaurants, sights, shops, people and possibilities, it’s hard to spend much time at all in bed {even though you pay half your income on it each month}.  There is so much competition in the city, that restaurants have the unique opportunity to fill niche markets: gourmet cheese and wine cafes, Coyote Ugly-themed gay bars, burger-joints dressed in Victorian decor…. you name it, NYC has it.

I’ve been very lucky in many ways in the last six months I’ve spent in this incredible city, but particularly in terms of finding friends with impeccable taste and a flair for adventure.  They have introduced me to amazing places from day one, which made my move here a million times easier {and a million times more fun!}.  Now that I work as a hotel concierge in the city, it’s my job each day to help tourists find such places during their stay here.  I’ve learned a whole lot over the past six months, so I think it’s high time I shared my city knowledge with you as well!

What do you think about that??! » Read the rest of this entry «

Kaelen New York ~ Fall ’13

April 6th, 2013 § 1 comment § permalink

“Alexandra Amarotico, you have been invited to the KAELEN FALL 2013 PRESENTATION.”  The email jumped out of my computer and into my heart. My very first New York fashion show invitation.  Life couldn’t possibly get better.

{Backstage} at Giulietta

One of my favorite shows during New York Fashion Week was {without a doubt} Giulietta New York. The line, designed by Sofia Sizzi, is currently a finalist for the CDFA/Vogue Fashion Fund award.  Sizzi’s designs are heavily influenced by the 1960′s, and this season the collection was a nod to the late sixties and it’s style icons like Jane Birkin. I had the opportunity to interview the make-up team backstage as they made-up the models, and then enjoyed the show from the front row. It was an amazing afternoon, and I’m happy to share a glimpse of it with you today.

{Backstage} at Tibi

February 17th, 2013 § 1 comment § permalink

After seeing Christian Siriano, I made my way through the snow-covered streets of New York to reach Pier 59, where Tibi would be holding their A/W 13 fashion show.  Here are a few shots of my incredible experience there…

The make-up and hair was simple and striking, and a perfect compliment to the beautifully tailored sportswear that Tibi presented.  All in all, a truly wonderful presentation.

~~

Do you remember that I first saw a Tibi fashion show one year ago exactly, when a new friend with the right connections took me to Lincoln Center for the very first time?

And here I was, one year and three fashion seasons later, with the incredible opportunity to go backstage and document a Tibi show from behind the scenes. What a blessing!!

It truly goes to show that with dedication, hard work, and great friends – anything is possible. It may sound cliche, but dreams do come true.

Fashion week may be over – but I know my New York adventure is just beginning.

Thank you for being there for the ride loves – I couldn’t do it without you.
