{DIY} Christmas Gift Ideas

December 20th, 2012 § 3 comments § permalink

If you’re getting very down to the wire on your Christmas shopping like I am, then might I suggest taking a little time this weekend to DIY a few gifts? Ohhh, and while your collecting supplies, just buy enough to make two of everything – so you can keep a few of these for yourself too! Just a thought… hehe!

Click the images below to see each DIY post in full:

For your neighbor: fresh flowers in a vintage vase or watering can

For your sister: a gold dotted dish to hold her favorite jewelry

For your best guy friend: gold dipped champagne glasses and chilled Prosecco

For your colleague: whimsical but still office-appropriate glitter earrings

For your fashionable girlfriend: collar tips to spice up her blouse collection

For your niece: a beaded necklace in her favorite color

For your Aunt: a lace printed dish and a simple, chic pair of earrings

For your parents-in-law: chocolate spoons and cute mugs for cozy hot cocoa

For everyone: initial ornaments for their trees, doors, desks – where ever!

For your guests: bags of homemade vanilla marshmallows tied with a red bow

It’s beginning to look a lot like…

{Asos glitter sunglasses and Butter London nail polish

This month is shaping up to be quite atypical for me – and yes, that’s coming from someone who has spent the last three holiday seasons in Denmark!  In a few weeks, I’ll fly to Oregon to meet my parents before we drive to Montana to spend Christmas in the mountains with my brother. Then, by New Years Eve, I will be back in NYC, in a new {currently unknown} apartment, ringing in 2013 with K {who will fly in from Copenhagen for the occasion}.  Phew! It’s going to be a busy month.  The perfect end for such a busy year!

But while I may not have my own apartment {I’m currently subletting in Brooklyn} or Christmas tree this year, I’m still merrily singing along to A Very She and Him Christmas and getting into the holiday spirit. After all, it’s the little things that count…

{The December issues of Vogue and Lucky Magazine

{Clementines, an ornament terrarium, and glowing DIY advent candles}

{My favorite ginger ale with red-and-white-striped straw just for fun}

{Trying out new shadows – plum is so beautiful for winter eyes – by Almay}

{I’ve been through about four 5lb bags of clementines in the last two weeks. Oh no!}

{I painted numbers with glue on $1.49 candles and sprinkled them with glitter to make four festive advent candles for each Sunday until Christmas.}

{I’m obsessed with the beautifully festive Butter London nail polish that I received c/o Coterie. Thank you!}

In related news: I am now officially roommates with one of the coolest girls in the whole world.  It’s crazy to think that in just June of this year I posted this vlog shout-out, having never even met Jen outside of Twitter!  And now here we are… roommates in NYC!  {All we need now is for miss Bethany to come visit us asap! #glamgang}

I hope your holiday season is shaping up to be a wonderful one too loves! And I’m glad that while few things in my life are constant at the moment, I’m so so happy that this blog is. After all, in 50 years when I look back on this time in my life, this will be a pretty freaking great place to start.

Lots of love.. xx

{Fashion Forward} Halloween Costumes

October 14th, 2012 § 6 comments § permalink

It’s almost Halloween loves! And if you’re anything like me, you’re desperately trying to come up with a cool, yet beautiful, look for the evening.  Here’s a few of my ideas for the big night…

The obvious choice would be to wear diamonds, an LBD and long black gloves – but you’re sure to run into numerous girls in the exact same getup at every Halloween event you attend. So why not go for Holly’s more casual, yet still sexy and absolutely fabulous, bedtime look?! DIY the mask, or pick it up here.  Add a beehive hairdo, an oversized white button down and a martini {or glass of milk}. Halloween: sorted.

There will probably be a few Lana del Rey look-a-likes on October 31, but feel free to join them. To give a little spook to the look, I suggest mimicking her Interview magazine cover with a faux bumble bee of some kind {whether stuck to your lip or on a stick}. Critical to making this look work: sky high hair, outrageously dark eyeliner, lip plumping gloss and long, long fingernails. For clothes, pick out body hugging looks in pastel hues. Ready, set, POUT.

Karl’s iconic look would be fab to pull off this Halloween. Pull your hair back into a tight bun at the back of your neck and pouf the front slightly before spraying with wash-out white coloring. Then add your most fabulous smoking jacket, a white button down and a skinny tie. Pump up your arm party, and add a rock n’ roll belt and sunglasses. Now, look indifferent and superior at all times. Bonus points if you carry around a fancy cat.

What kind of fashion forward costume do you have planned this Halloween?!

Colored Chalk Tips {DIY}

Nasty Gal Scalloped Lace Dress

Chalk Pastels

I’m lucky to have a hair color that I love {thanks mom and dad!}, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to experiment with new looks every now and then.

That’s why I was extra excited about the colored chalk tips tutorials that have been floating around the internet lately {here and here}.  Fast, easy, no-commitment color. Love it!  This weekend I went with hot pink, but you can bet I’ll be trying the blues and purples soon enough…

What do you think loves? Would you dare?

PS Thank you to everyone who stopped by yesterday’s post and shared a kind word or became a new follower!  I never expected such an overwhelmingly postive and loving response, so thank you so much for that.  I had the best day finding out more about each of you, and I’m excited by how much the #GlamGang message has spread!  Please join us if you wish – we love new friends – because the best is yet to come! xxx
