{Fashion Forward} Halloween Costumes

October 26th, 2013 § 0 comments § permalink

I’m all about looking great on Halloween. I don’t want to be bloody or ugly or quirky or crazy or slutty. I want to be stunning.  Am I alone in this? I mean – who wants to look slutty on Halloween when you can go as a total knockout?  Not. me.

For those of you out there with similar sentiments, I’ve rounded up three outfits you can make with things lying around at home and just a few new additions to your wardrobe that will be useful long after November 1 rolls around.  After all, that new little black dress is totally justified if you can wear it on Halloween and to this years’ Christmas party, right?!

Gold Studded Pumpkin {DIY}

October 16th, 2013 § 3 comments § permalink

In a tiny apartment like ours, you’ve got to keep seasonal decor to a minimum. I’m so tempted by all the cute glittery Halloween designs that have popped up around the city — but seriously, WHERE would I put it all away on November 1?!  {Even my oven is already full of sweaters… 😉 )

That being said, I couldn’t resist a $1.99 pumpkin and an excuse to finally bust out these gold studs…

Succulent Gem

October 7th, 2013 § 2 comments § permalink

Making our tiny New York studio apartment a home has been an uphill battle – to say the least.  I’ve faced just about every single apartment-related catastrophe possible in the past five months since moving in {knock on wood}: I’ve been scammed into overpaying rent by nearly $400 a month, had a roommate drop out of signing a lease just hours after I fronted a cash deposit, and had to exterminate the one thing every New Yorker fears more than anything {don’t make me say their name!}.

Guys: it’s been a hell of a ride.

That being said, I’m now settled into my cozy apartment in the heart of Manhattan with my best friend — so things are pretty fantastic. Now that all the forementioned drama is behind us, we’re focusing on making our apartment a home – one homecooked meal or DIY project at a time.

Which brings me to my point {finally}: this hanging succulent mini-garden.

{DIY} Christmas Gift Ideas

December 20th, 2012 § 3 comments § permalink

If you’re getting very down to the wire on your Christmas shopping like I am, then might I suggest taking a little time this weekend to DIY a few gifts? Ohhh, and while your collecting supplies, just buy enough to make two of everything – so you can keep a few of these for yourself too! Just a thought… hehe!

Click the images below to see each DIY post in full:

For your neighbor: fresh flowers in a vintage vase or watering can

For your sister: a gold dotted dish to hold her favorite jewelry

For your best guy friend: gold dipped champagne glasses and chilled Prosecco

For your colleague: whimsical but still office-appropriate glitter earrings

For your fashionable girlfriend: collar tips to spice up her blouse collection

For your niece: a beaded necklace in her favorite color

For your Aunt: a lace printed dish and a simple, chic pair of earrings

For your parents-in-law: chocolate spoons and cute mugs for cozy hot cocoa

For everyone: initial ornaments for their trees, doors, desks – where ever!

For your guests: bags of homemade vanilla marshmallows tied with a red bow

Happy HoliDIYs!!!!!!! {Har har har.}

{Asos glitter sunglasses and Butter London nail polish

This month is shaping up to be quite atypical for me – and yes, that’s coming from someone who has spent the last three holiday seasons in Denmark!  In a few weeks, I’ll fly to Oregon to meet my parents before we drive to Montana to spend Christmas in the mountains with my brother. Then, by New Years Eve, I will be back in NYC, in a new {currently unknown} apartment, ringing in 2013 with K {who will fly in from Copenhagen for the occasion}.  Phew! It’s going to be a busy month.  The perfect end for such a busy year!

But while I may not have my own apartment {I’m currently subletting in Brooklyn} or Christmas tree this year, I’m still merrily singing along to A Very She and Him Christmas and getting into the holiday spirit. After all, it’s the little things that count…

{The December issues of Vogue and Lucky Magazine

{Clementines, an ornament terrarium, and glowing DIY advent candles}

{My favorite ginger ale with red-and-white-striped straw just for fun}

{Trying out new shadows – plum is so beautiful for winter eyes – by Almay}

{I’ve been through about four 5lb bags of clementines in the last two weeks. Oh no!}

{I painted numbers with glue on $1.49 candles and sprinkled them with glitter to make four festive advent candles for each Sunday until Christmas.}

{I’m obsessed with the beautifully festive Butter London nail polish that I received c/o Coterie. Thank you!}

In related news: I am now officially roommates with one of the coolest girls in the whole world.  It’s crazy to think that in just June of this year I posted this vlog shout-out, having never even met Jen outside of Twitter!  And now here we are… roommates in NYC!  {All we need now is for miss Bethany to come visit us asap! #glamgang}

I hope your holiday season is shaping up to be a wonderful one too loves! And I’m glad that while few things in my life are constant at the moment, I’m so so happy that this blog is. After all, in 50 years when I look back on this time in my life, this will be a pretty freaking great place to start.

Lots of love.. xx
