Home Away From Home

I’m a lucky lady this week, being spoiled like crazy in my Oregon hometown. Mornings are spent getting up early to drink coffee and go hiking with my parents, afternoons are spent lunching with family and friends, and evenings are spent relaxing at home and meeting the new beautiful baby next door.  Today my mom and I bought tickets to three shows at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, so I’m looking forward to lots of theater the rest of the week {starting with The Tempest tomorrow}.

{Cocktail Hour} with VeeV

The cosmopolitan may be a New York City institution {thanks to the fab four on SATC} but I honestly never order one when out on the town. {I save the extra $8 and just order a vodka-cranberry if anything!}  But when Klout and VeeV teamed up to let me try VeeV’s organic, low-cal, ready-made cosmopolitan – I was definitely on board.  Slightly sweet, slightly tangy, with just 125 calories per serving, my household was instantly hooked.

Best Summer {Sweet} Treats

June 28th, 2013 § 2 comments § permalink

So…. I live in a basement studio apartment in Hell’s Kitchen. There’s a gay bar across the street and a frozen yogurt shop around the corner, so I’ll go ahead and be the first to admit that I’m not making many cute cocktails or whipping up lots of cool, sweet treats this summer.  {Instead I’m sipping on $4 frozen cosmos while watching Beyonce music videos and eating the occasional pistachio froyo with coconut flakes.  Yes – my life is super hard.}  While my first summer in New York City is nothing short of wonderful, I can’t help but feel nostalgic for the days when I used my kitchen for storing something other than Raisin Bran and chilled water.

So for all of you with a little more space in your homes, here’s a roundup of my favorite sweet treat recipes from last summer – from homemade strawberry sorbet to rose petal cocktails to frozen banana pops!  All of these are perfect for sharing with family and friends during the upcoming holiday week {or just enjoying on your very own}!

Baby it’s cold outside

January 31st, 2013 § 1 comment § permalink

I’ve been sick in bed for the last five days, and I truly think I’m going to go stir crazy.  So many things are happening around me right now, and instead of facing them like a grown-up, my body chooses to shut down completely and hide away under an enormous down comforter and pile of tissues.

It’s not healthy. I know this. I’m working on it.

Denmark is a difficult country to catch the flu in if, for example, you are an American like myself who is used to relying on cold medicine to get you through the sneezing, coughing misery.  In Denmark, the doctors say “drink lots of tea”, and so, without any other medicinal options, that’s what you do.  I’ve been through two boxes so far this week – first one of licorice tea and then one of “Sleepytime”.  I mix in a few cloves and anise, then stir in a spoonful of honey and coconut oil.  Miracle worker on a sore throat: let me tell you.

But guys… it’s no NyQuil.
