Best Hair Cut {Hell’s Kitchen}

“Where do you get your haircut?”

This question comes up frequently at the concierge desk where I work in downtown New York City.  I smile, and think to myself: Truthfully? Well, I trimmed my bangs with zig-zag sewing scissors this morning because I couldn’t see out from under them. Would you like me to give yours a go?

Not exactly the answer they were looking for, I suppose.

Enter the David Ryan Salon to save the day. Located on 46th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, mere blocks from Times Square, lies a chic, comfortable salon with funny, kind, talented hairdressers.  They’ll share stories about styling hair at Marc Jacobs’ last runway show, or for the Four Weddings TV show on TLC.  You’ll sip ginger lemon tea, relax, and walk out of the salon feeling like a million dollars.

Isn’t that a better answer? I think so too.

{Breakfast} at Jami’s ~ Part Un

March 26th, 2013 § 5 comments § permalink

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of seeing Breakfast at Tiffany’s on Broadway here in New York. The show was visually spectacular, and the beautiful, elegant 1940′s era costumes haven’t left my mind since. Therefore when Jami asked me to style a few pieces from their spring line, I knew I wanted to channel the infamous Holly Golightly and her effortless, classic style – but with a modern spin.

She is Red {Turns Two}

It’s amazing to think that two years have passed since I sat down and wrote this first post. Everything has changed… yet, at the same time, nothing has. I may live in New York City with a new job and new dreams, but I’m still just a girl in love with a Danish boy who likes to bake cakes.

Some things just never change!

Skyline Stripes

I’m trying to think of something more groundbreaking to write than “New York is amazing” — but truly that’s how I can best summarize my experience since officially moving here three weeks ago.

Things were so bumpy at first.  After the whirlwind high of New York Fashion Week and then having a terrible flu that seemed endless, I hesitantly settled into my new city. Honestly, I was terrified. I couldn’t sleep. Questions flew through my mind constantly.  Where would I work? What would I do? Where would I shop for groceries, how would I make my new apartment a home, who would I be friends with, and how would I find time for it all?

It was exhausting.

But somehow, even when you don’t know what to ask for, the world hands you everything you need. I now have a lovely apartment, incredible roommates who I’m so happy to call friends, a running route through Central Park, an organic grocery store and cheap laudromat just steps away from home, and I fall asleep every night to melodies that waft up from the piano bar downstairs.

And, this week I start a brand new job in midtown.

So… New York is amazing.  And that’s that.
